Ancient Egypt Daily Life
Egypt is a dry, hot desert country that depends on the waters of the River Nile. The River Nile was used to water the fields ; traveling and transporting goods (by boat) ; source of protein by fishing for fish ; material to build houses (mud bricks ).Their daily life was more complex than ours back then , now we have machines , cement houses , electricity , and more !
Egyptians’ lived beside the River Nile were almost all built from mud bricks. (The Pharaoh’s was built from stone.) The mud was carried in baskets and then was poured into molds. When they were dry, they were left in the sun to cook and finish off. They take them out of the molds and start building houses!
We know from so much about their daily life because of the huge number of wall paintings. The paintings show a huge number of servants and slaves working in the houses. From the paintings we know that the servants and slaves watched charcoal fire; ground wheat for bread; cooked fish over fires; carried baskets of fresh vegetables.
Farmers grew flax. Flax was used to make linen which is used to make their clothing .Kids wore jewelry round their neck. They sometimes wore o clothes too! Even though most people were farmers, there were many trades! Trade was a way of exchanging goods. In order to transport goods to other people, they made small boats out of papyrus stalks put together. Bigger boats are made out of wood.
